Visitor Information

Please refer to this page and to the main library homepage for information about the new procedures we are using to contain the coronavirus. Please also see the Libraries’ general Visitor Information page as well.

To conduct research in the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History, come to the Department of Special and Area Studies Collections on the second floor of George A. Smathers Library (Library East).  We are happy to provide directions or you can see the location of the George A. Smathers Library on our campus map.

Upon arriving in the Grand Reading Room, you will be asked to fill out a registration form and put your belongings into a locker. Items that are approved for use in the reading room are: pencils (no pens or markers!), notebooks, tablets/laptops, and digital cameras. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Reading Room Reference Desk at 352-273-2757.

Normal operations of the Reading Room are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Mondays – Thursdays and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Fridays. During summer semesters the Reading Room closes at 5:00 PM.  There are no weekend hours for Special Collections. Please visit the Map and Imagery Library and Latin American and Caribbean Collections sites for information on their hours.
